Disney Reports It’s Made Back the $4BN It Spend On Lucasfilm
Six years ago Disney purchased Lucasfilm. This, by proxy, meant that Disney had gained control over one of the hottest film franchises out there. Namely, Star Wars. Spending $4.05BN (yes, billion) on it though at the time seemed like a deal that could be great or could backfire horrifically.
Well, it turns out that it might have been one of the best business deals in recent memory. In a report via CNET, after just 6-years, Disney has made back every penny it spent on purchasing the company!
Mixed Reaction By Fans
Since the purchase by Disney, it’s clear for all to see that the House of Mouse has been pushing it’s new purchase hard. With 2 new films released from the main franchise and 2 spin-offs (all generally doing well at the box office), they’re at least producing content. Something George Lucas always seemed reluctant to do.
That being said though, they haven’t all done well. Solo, for example, while making money, did very poorly (based on expectations) at the box office.
The Future?
With various TV projects in the works and at least 1 more film (from the current trilogy) left to release, despite what you might think of the more recent films, the franchise is looking remarkably healthy. When you consider as well that Disney is now officially in the black (depending on your definition) we can surely expect a lot more to come!
Let’s hope it’s good!
