Domino’s Launches Drone Delivery Service in New Zealand

We already knew that Domino’s was planning to start off a special drone-based pizza delivery service, and it looks like the company has finally managed to launch such a system, albeit in New Zealand only for the time being. The program was developed in partnership with Flirtey, and the drone deliveries in question were merged with  the company’s online ordering system for extra convenience. Obviously, Domino’s hopes to expand this new system to other areas as well, but this will depend on various factors, both legal and otherwise. Group CEO Don Meiji had a few words to say about this drone-based pizza delivery method:

“Drones offer the promise of safer, faster deliveries to an expanded delivery area, meaning more customers can expect to receive a freshly-made order within our ultimate target of 10 minutes.”

Sources indicate that Flirtey is currently working on expanding the project to the United States, although Domino’s has not issued an official statement regarding the subject at the time of writing. This year, Flirtey managed to perform its very first FAA-sanctioned delivery in Nevada, which brought a first-aid kit, water, and food to an empty house. Considering how strict US standard are when it comes to drone deliveries, it might be a while before US citizens will be able to receive their pizzas by air.
