Dooms Iconic BFG 3D Printed at 1:1 Scale!

3D printing has given the world many innovations, but every now and then, we find a waste of human resources that’s just too much fun to pass up. I am of course talking about the rather sizable and epic “BFG” gun from the Doom series. The crazy folks over at Bethesda and id Software saw that the world needed a 1:1 scale replica of the legendary weapon, and they weren’t wrong.

Of course, it is just a replica, it’s not going to fire an extremely destructive nuclear arsenal any time soon, but it will still make you look like a bad-ass. Clocking in at a meter long, the mockup doesn’t look easy to wield and we can only imagine how heavy the “real” thing would have been.

It took almost 70 hours for Kirby Downey to design the weapon, then another 1000 to get it printed, using multiple printers over the course of a full month before he was able to start sticking it all together. Unfortunately, this is a one of a kind and went to a competition winner who designed its awesome paint job. If you want one, you’ll just have to make it yourself. Although we’re hoping they release the 3D printer files for it in the future.
