DOOM’s Ultra Nightmare Graphics Option Could Be a Dream Come True

Even though it is a controversial issue, many believe that current games are being held back by current-gen consoles, and if you look at the pure hardware specifications of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, it’s clear that they can’t really be on par with a PC equipped with high-end hardware. Apparently, the people behind DOOM’s development, id Software, have decided to allow the game to take full advantage of a PC’s hardware, which is why DOOM’s PC version will actually include a graphics option named “Ultra Nightmare.” As you probably suspected, this graphics setting will be much more demanding than the standard “Ultra” preset, but it should also deliver the best possible graphics.
This means that DOOM will have five possible graphics presets named Low, Medium, High, Ultra and Ultra Nightmare, and it will definitely be interesting to see how the final setting compares with Ultra. The news was confirmed via Twitter by id Software’s lead renderer programmer, Tiago Sousa. It’s likely that the new graphics option will mostly benefit gamers who are looking forward to DOOM’s single player campaign, as multiplayer matches usually require high FPS for a proper experience. The game comes out next week, which means that we’ll soon find out if its new graphics option is actually worth it or not.
