DRAM Prices Will Continue to Drop This Year

For those of you looking for a nice RAM upgrade it soon may be the time to do so as prices for DRAM have dropped and are expected to drop even more so.
DRAM Prices Dropped By 20%
According to a report from TrendForce the global price of DRAM plunged by 20% in Q1 2023 and is also expected to drop another 10-15% in Q2. What has caused a sudden drop in VRAM, well its down to the old supply and demand as DRAM manufacturers such as Samsung, Micron and SK Hynix have had to scale down their production due to reduced demand from consumers. This reduced demand is most likely down to reduced spending habits from the fallout of the pandemic and many other events affecting the current cost of living.
Prices to Continue to Drop
It is said that manufacturers of other consumer electronics have plenty of supply of DRAM chips and until their supply dries out it is unlikely they will purchase more which leads TrendForce to predict another drop in Q2. It’s unlikely for the spending habits of consumers to increase dramatically enough for the drop in production to make enough of an impact in the price drops and in turn the prices are expected to continue to drop between 10-15%.
Good News
Of course, price drops are great for us consumers as these will obviously affect RAM modules at the moment you can get 32GB kits of DDR4 at Scan for around £70 which is £30 less than what I bought mine for last year. This price drop in DRAM may also have a small impact on GPU prices as well as many other consumer electronics.
