Drones Under Scrutiny Again as Collision with Plane Confirmed

Drone regulation on the way?

Drones are a pretty fun piece of technology. Most of us have, I would expect, owned or operated a drone. From an entry level ‘budget’ £20.00 going into the thousands, they can be amazingly accessible. With this, obviously comes misuse and again, we may find that the irresponsible actions of the few might end up influencing us all.

At this point, I should note that clearly, some aspects of drone usage is illegal. Such as the use of them for prison delivery. A matter which is disturbingly common and hard to actually ‘police’ against.

More positive usages, such as home delivery, are discussed, but still a long way from reality. Personally, I just fancy that if that ever did happen, you’d have people sat on rooftops with brooms ready to intercept your Amazon or pizza delivery.

Collision with airplane confirmed!

One of the more talked about potential ‘disaster’ stories or potentials with drones is what could potentially happen if one collided with a plane. This is particularly given that drones still are, largely, unregulated.

Well, in a report via the BBC, a drone collided with a passenger jet in Canada.

The aircraft fortunately only sustained minor damage and was able to successfully land, however, it does prove that it can happen. In this instance, it appears that the damage was due to impact only. Now, of course, purely speculative. However, if a drone was to enter a plane’s engine, it could, potentially cause a serious problem.

Ironically Canada is currently awaiting the implementation of a law presented only earlier this year for the stricter regulation of sales. It seems that regulation is more than justified.

What do you think? Should drones be regulated and if so, should it be the person or the size of the drone? Let us know in the comments!
