Neil Druckmann Hints The Last of Us 3 Isn’t (Apparently) in Development Yet!

It is, of course, not a matter of speculation regarding The Last of Us Part III. The game will happen. Pending a global doomsday, it’s 99.99% guaranteed! – With that being said, however, there is clearly the question as to exactly when we can, roughly speaking, expect it to arrive.

Well, in this regard some interesting news appeared online just before Christmas from a reliable leak source claiming that development on The Last of Us Part III had already begun. While this clearly didn’t suggest that a release date was likely any time soon, this did at least suggest that it was at least set to arrive at some point over the next couple of years.

Following a subsequent Twitter post from Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, however, it seems that he wants us to be a little wary about “insider” information. Yeah, sounds to me like he’s basically saying that The Last of Us Part III hasn’t really kicked into gear just yet!

The Last of Us Part III – Development Status Unclear!

Based on the timing of the post, it does seem pretty clear here that Neil Druckmann is specifically dispelling rumours that full-blown development work has begun on The Last of Us Part III. – Now, in fairness, there is probably a skeleton staff somewhere out there working on the title. If nothing else, there is, of course, the matter of the script to like write, rewrite, revise, and then figure out how to translate into a gameplay environment.

For those of you potentially hoping for some major The Last of Us Part III news this year, however, the short version very clearly seems to suggest that you should not hold your breath. The game will come, but based on Neil Druckmann, maybe think more along the lines of 2026 onwards.

What do you think though? – Let us know in the comments!
