One universe, shared by everyone at the same time. Emergent gameplay. Fully editable voxel world, with player-made ships & constructs – That’s the title line of this amazing looking game that has hit Kickstarter. Dual Universe is the name of the game and you’ll be able to build anything from cities to spaceships and orbital stations. Yes, even a death star, if you want to, because there aren’t any real limitations to this game.
It is an ambitious project and one that without a doubt will be hyped up before its estimated release in December 2018. However, it does seem to have all the things that players have been missing from current games such as Space Engineers, Reigh of Kings, and No Man’s Sky. No limits.
The three key aspects of the game are: One centralized and unique persistent universe shared by everyone at the same time. No instances, no zones, no transitions. Everything in the game is player-made: ships, cities, orbital stations, with no limit in size. The world is fully editable. Emergent gameplay: economy, trade, territories, politics, and warfare are all player-driven. Both PvP and non-PvP will be possible.
Whether you want to go it alone as a lonely space pirate or work among hundreds of other players on a large spaceship, you can do it. It sounds almost too good to be true. But given the recent development in hardware, the new CPUs, graphics cards, and NVMe drives, it is possible to create such a game.
Such an ambitious game also requires some hefty funding and the game has a Kickstarter goal of €500,000, and at the time of writing, they already collected over €255,000 with 26 days to go. You can be part of the journey for as little as €12 for the Early Bird Iron Founder pack or go as high as €7000 for the Kyrium Founder pack. And people seem to believe in the game as there already are three people the pledged for the largest pack and several others also pledging €1000 and €5000 to get the large founder packs with the most content and real-world prizes.
The below teaser was the first shown during E3 and it is composed of pre-alpha in-game footage. The actual game should look quite a lot better judging from the rendered screenshot shown on the Kickstarter page.
If all this peaked your interest, then I suggest you head over to the official Kickstarter page for the game and check up on all the juicy details – and there are a lot of them.
