Founded in 2008, while DuckDuckGo certainly has nowhere near the prominence or traffic of Google, in terms of search engines I think it would be fair to say that many today now choose to use this as a, rightly or wrongly, superior alternative. – One of the key features of the DuckDuckGo search engine is undoubtedly the fact that it very deliberately does not track your online search activity. Additionally, it also tends to throw up a number of search results that the more mainstream alternatives do not.
Over recent years, however, possibly as it has been gaining more traction with consumers, the website has been looking to make moves towards removing certain search results. And following a report via Engadget, it seems that the latest change has now resulted in a huge restriction of piracy websites!
Various users have started reporting that DuckDuckGo no longer yields the search results it once did. With the predominant focus seemingly being on piracy-based websites, it’s understood that the search engine no longer provides any kind of results for some of the most well-known portals around (do I really have to list them?…). – In addition, this also seemingly includes a block on websites that give users the option to download YouTube videos.
Why would DuckDuckGo choose to do this one? Better search engine results have surely been one of its key benefits when contrasted against its rivals, right? – Well, the bottom line is that, as above, while they’ve grown in popularity this has seen them, unfortunately, have to focus more on the legal issues such as copyright infringement. As such, moves like this were always inevitable.
On the plus side though, for those of you who like a relatively clean slate while searching online, it’s well worth checking out. So if you want to see what DuckDuckGo has to offer, click the link here!
