Duet, an app that allows you to use your iPad as an external display for your Mac, has just been released. The app was teased a few days ago, but now users have finally been able to try it out for themselves.

The app uses Apple’s standard Lightening cable to link your Mac with your iPad (or iPhone) and quite simply turns your iOS device into an external display. It can display in either a standard definition mode or in a ‘Retina’ mode, using the full resolution of your iPad or iPhone’s display.

I tested the app myself and it works pretty well. It streams the image to the iPad very smoothly in standard mode, while lag with the Retina mode can be encountered on some older Macs (I used a 2012 MacBook Air, iPad 3rd Generation and an iPhone 6 Plus ).

Duet is available now on the App Store for $9.99 for a very limited time, it will be $14.99 after that.
