Dynasty Warriors 9 PC Version Get Patch That Fixes Practically Nothing

Dynasty Warriors 9

Earlier this week, after much anticipation, Dynasty Warriors 9 released on console and PC. While the console versions have largely been met with positive feedback, the PC version is, put simply, garbage.

Hopes were raised when KOEI Tecmo released a patch. They were, however, quickly dashed again as the patch fixes none of the major issues with the PC version.

So disappointing

Initially, when I wrote about Dynasty Warriors 9, my hopes were high. Having now played the PC version, they are completely in the gutter. Why? Because the PC release was awful. The silver lining on this very black cloud is that it is not redeemable. It can be fixed!

Therefore, when a patch was released, people, such as myself, hopes that this might have been the missing piece of the jigsaw that would make Dynasty Warriors 9 run well on PC. Well, no, it isn’t. In fact, it’s practically pointless.

Why is the PC version so bad?

Now that I’ve played it, I can delay this first hand. Firstly, the graphics while not bad, are mediocre at best. This should have looked a lot better than it does! Secondly, the controls. Put simply, you NEED a controller, mouse and keyboard is practically useless. I daresay some do play on keyboard and mouse, but lordy knows why. Thirdly and perhaps most majorly, it runs awful.

With a Nvidia 980ti and Ryzen 5 processor, while I’m not at the top of the gaming tree, my PC should handle pretty much anything. Despite this, I barely get a solid 60fps in 1080p. In 1440p I generally averaged 30-60 dropping as low as 20fps at certain points.

The bottom line is that Dynasty Warriors 9 has a problem seen in no many games. The PC optimisation is crap.

Should I buy it?

Yes, but if you have the option, get the console version. Dynasty Warriors 9 is a fun game. The problem is that the PC version has a good game hidden under several layers of inexcusable issues.

I hear that the PS4 version is decent, particularly since a launch date patch. The Xbox One version seems better.

Oh, and the patch? The report via DSOGaming suggests that it fixed a rare and unusual unsupported language issue that stopped the game from correctly loading ending cut-scenes. Thanks KOEI Tecmo!
