Let’s analyze this for a second; Battlefield 3 is one of the most anticipated game of the year, with computers most likely to deliver the best graphics compared to the gaming consoles, so we got that right, and nothing has changed for this.
Electronic Arts, aka EA, is teaming up with Virgin Gaming for a massive tournament on Battlefield 3 taking place in 2012, with a cash price of $1.6m, but here is where the “gold standard” is taking its place, as this tournament is only for them, in other words, just the Xbox and PS3, the PC is not getting any of the fun.
Are you kidding me? “Gold standard”? Here’s a question: what in the name of all that is gaming is that supposed to mean?
The president of GameStop, Tony Bartel, has some kind of an answer, which was said in an interview with IndustryGamers:
“We continue to believe that the console is a strong platform and will continue to be the gold standard.”
Sure, whatever. Another revolting thing that you may want to take a look at is the availability of Battlefield 3 on Steam… which is missing, and in order to get it, you’ll have to go to EA’s own Origin platform.
The official website for the tournament states:
“The biggest, most realistic, room-shaking FPS ever demands a tournament that will always be remembered. That’s why Virgin Gaming, and EA DICE have come together to bring you an online competition you’ll be telling your grandkids about. So strap on your boots and check your magazine—when the spoils of war are this rich, you can bet things are gonna get messy.”
Either way, EA is sure to get a nice amount of selling in the PC section, yet we don’t really see the point in restricting such competition.
Anyway, you can go to the competition’s official website if you want to register because you have the so called “gold standard”…
