For more than a few months now, there have been persistent rumours that EA was working on a brand new addition to the Dead Space franchise. Something that would perhaps make sense given that it’s been over 8 years now since it saw its last (and generally not overly well-received) release. – Following a report via Engadget, however, it seems that while the overall theme might have been correct, the specific subject was not.
Put simply, rather than a new release, sources are now claiming that EA is working on a Dead Space Remake!
Effectively looking to replicate the success seen with Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remake, it appears that EA wants a slice of the nostalgic horror pie for itself. Admittedly, while some may be disappointed that we’re getting a Dead Space Remake instead of Death Space 4, a reimagining of the original does perhaps make more sense. Overall, it was by far the most widely praised of the ‘trilogy’ and is arguable one of the scariest games ever made in terms of horror.
Give it some modern conveniences and a hefty slap of next-generational graphical gloss, and I fail to see how this could be anything other than a license to print money if executed correctly!
We should point out that EA is still entirely silent on the subject in terms of an official announcement. The likelihood of something coming quickly on the horizon does seem exceptionally likely though. For example, someone spotted that the games’ official YouTube channel was updated only a few days ago for the first time in years. Without this confirmation, though, we are still guessing whether this will be Dead Space 4 or a Dead Space Remake.
If you were going to put money on it though, we’d strongly suggest that the latter is, at the time of writing, looking to be the direction EA is taking. And on the whole, it’s probably the smarter, if potentially less exciting, move.
