It’s easy to forget that Visceral Studios was working on its own Star Wars game. After all, everyone’s busy with the new Battlefront 2 or the classic Battlefront 2 and its rebooted multiplayer. Still, the creators of Dead Space were working on an action adventure Star Wars title. That was before EA decided to shut them down. Apparently, Visceral’s game did not meet EA’s expectations. As a result, the studio will be dissolved and the game will be developed by EA Vancouver. Moreover, many Visceral team members will soon find themselves reassigned to other projects.
“In its current form, it was shaping up to be a story-based, linear adventure game. Throughout the development process, we have been testing the game concept with players, listening to the feedback about what and how they want to play, and closely tracking fundamental shifts in the marketplace. It has become clear that to deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come, we needed to pivot the design.”
The Star Wars title in question will likely receive a complete makeover. According to EA, it will offer great depth and variety, and it will appeal to a wide audience. Tech-wise, it will rely on the Frostbite Engine, which means that we should expect some pretty nice graphics. Unfortunately, it’s not likely that we’ll ever find out what Visceral wanted to do with it in the first place. We will see EA’s final version someday, but given its troublesome development, we’re likely looking at a few years of waiting time.
