EA To Retire Digital Sales of Legacy Battlefield Games

For those of you who haven’t played some of the classic Battlefield games, well you’ve got a year to acquire them legally as EA has announced that on April 28th 2023 they will be retiring some classic Battlefield titles from digital storefronts.

Classic Battlefield Games to Be Retired

EA has announced that by April 23rd Battlefield 1943, and Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2 will be removed from digital storefronts and you will no longer be able to purchase them. This is in preparation for the online services for these titles is also retired by December 2023.

I’ve never been a fan of the battlefield franchise and have only played BattleField Bad Company 2, Battlefield 1 and BattleField V and of the 3 I didn’t enjoy BattleField V at all.

Battlefield 1943

This was Battlefield’s 3rd entry into the franchise, taking you to WW2 during the Pacific war Between the US and Japan. 1943 was only ever released as a digital game, and was exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but crucially for the first time, it offered us the ability to play Wake Island on console.

Battlefield Bad Company and Bad Company 2

Marlowe. Sweetwater. Redford and Haggard. Four names that resonate a lot with fans as Battlefield: Bad Company introduced an iconic and relatable bunch of troublemakers who risked it all and went AWOL to pursue a personal quest.

The band got back together for what they thought to be their final mission within Bad Company 2, which involved them going behind enemy lines. However, upon completion, they were tasked with heading towards South America on what became an increasingly riskier but also mysterious mission. Bad Company 2 was my first battlefield game and I rather enjoyed the single-player campaign that was within.

It’s a shame to see games removed from digital storefronts as its the only way to get most games nowadays especially on PC.
