This Eagle Can Actually Take down Illegal Drones

As drones are becoming more and more numerous, it’s getting harder and harder for authorities to keep track of them. Consequently, organizations such as the Tokyo police have developed anti-drone squads equipped with nets that can bring down illegal flying devices, but as you can probably imagine, this solution is not always the safest or the most practical one. The Dutch have decided to take on a more natural approach to this problem, and so the Dutch National Police has begun training eagles to intercept illegal drones in emergency situations. The Police has worked closely with a training company named Guard From Above for this particular project, and I have to admit that I was quite surprised by the results.

Apparently, an eagle was successfully trained to identify a DJI drone, capture it and take it to a safe place using its talons. Obviously, safety nets can also serve a similar purpose, but since the eagle actually drops the drone at a predesignated spot, the risk of it falling on someone’s head is greatly diminished. Eagles are perfectly suited for drone hunting, as their strong talons allow them to grip and carry heavy objects without any issues. The problem is that drone rotors can still cause the bird some harm, which is why authorities are now looking for ways to protect these magnificent birds during their missions.
