EA's Origin Client Adds Download Manager and FPS Counter in Latest Update

The latest update to EA’s Origin client finally adds several features that many fans have been requesting. This includes the addition of a built-in frame rate counter as well as an update to the download manager’s features for adjusting bandwidth.

Built-in Framerate monitor (FPS)

The built-in framerate counter in Origin works independently from the actual Origin in-game overlay. The counter’s position can be in any of the cour corners of the screen. To access this feature, users can go under Application Settings and adjust the Origin In-Game options. It is a simple counter that is designed to be lightweight and works with any Origin client game.

Bandwidth Control for Download Manager

Another much requested feature is the bandwidth control for the built-in download manager. Users can now select the speed limit by choosing from a drop down menu. This option is accessed under Application Settings > Download restrictions. This option is available set whether the user is in-game or not.

Cross-game Party Invites

Aside from the download manager update and the FPS monitor, Origin now has the ability to join friends even while playing a different game. This feature is only possible for same-game players until the latest update. Cross-game party invites saves users plenty of time and automates the process.

This feature is currently limited to users who enable the “Participate in Origin Client betas” option however. This is a requirement that must be also true for the rest of the party the client is trying to join.

Players get a notification for an invite and if they accept, Origin starts a countdown just in case the player changes their mind in between. Upon the timer running out, Origin will automatically launch the game being played.

All these features are available to users who enable the “Participate in Origin Client beta” option under Origin settings.
