eBay have introduced a same day shipping service for certain eBay products, the new service will be called eBay Now. The initial introduction of eBay Now comes in the form of an iOS app for residents of the U.S city San Francisco. Residents will be able to get $5 same day shipping on products from local stores.
Users that are interested can get access to an “exclusive beta” which lets anyone register and those who do, should get a download link shortly after. Currently it appears eBay Now currently only works for purchases that exceed $25 in value, but beta testers get $15 off their first eBay Now order as well as free shipping on their first three orders before a $5 delivery fee kicks in.
“The service is open to SF residents M-Sat 9am to 9pm and Sunday 9am-6pm, and deliveries can arrive in as little as an hour but a store must be open at least a half hour after an order is place. Partnered stores include Macy’s, Toys’R’Us, Target, and Best Buy.”
eBay is expected to analyse the success of this small scale launch, and should the demand exist in other places eBay will roll out the service to more locations. But for the time being, San Francisco is the guinea pig for this scheme that is surely required by eBay if it wants to stay competitive with other etailers.
