Edge Update Looks to Improve CPU, RAM, and Battery Usage

Even though Microsoft Edge still has a relatively small user base since transitioning to the new Chromium-based design (around 10% at the time of writing), as someone who uses it literally all the time, I have nothing but good things to say about it. – If you too enjoy it as an excellent (and certainly less resource greedy) alternative to Chrome, however, then it would appear that with a new update on the way, things are about to get even better.

Edge Update Brings Optimizations!

Coming in a report via The Verge, although currently only available for Windows Insider members, the latest version of Edge will offer consumers a new ‘performance’ mode which, in a nutshell (and particularly in terms of laptop users) will look to help make the browsing experience smoother and operate more optimally with your resources.

“Performance mode helps you optimize speed, responsiveness, memory, CPU and battery usage. Performance improvements might vary depending on your individual specifications and browser habits.”

When is it Out?

Although no exact release date has been set yet, we’d expect this new version of Edge to be rolled out around May as part of the first major Windows 10 update of the year. So, if you regularly use a laptop for your internet browsing, this certainly looks to be something worth checking out. Particularly if you’re currently using Chrome and find it runs at a snail’s pace despite eating up all of your RAM.
