After Roman “Der8auer” Hartung’s video went viral two weeks ago pointing out the inadequacy of stock X299 VRM heatsinks, it is only inevitable that manufacturers respond this call to action. EKWB for instance, recommends fully subjecting the CPU and the VRM itself with a full-coverage monoblock. In particular, they are now offering the EK-FB MSI X299 GAMING PRO CARBON RGB Monoblock. This highly capable liquid cooling leaves no room for doubt whether the VRM temperatures are throttling.
EK-FB MSI X299 GAMING PRO CARBON RGB Monoblock Features
According to EKWB, the VRM temperature drop can be as significant as 20% compared to the stock cooling solution. This is despite the fact that the monoblock shares the heat load from the CPU. In their internal testing, they found that a i7-7900X under an EK-Supremacy X99 CPU block runs at 84 degrees Celsius. On a stock MSI X299 Carbon motherboard, this results in VRM temperatures of 53 degrees. With the monoblock installed, the CPU temperature drops to 75 degrees Celsius while the VRM drops to only 37 degrees Celsius.
Like previous EKWB monoblocks, the contact are is made of nickel-plated copper with a glass acrylic see-through top. This enables the RGB LED lighting to backlight the entire monoblock, resulting in a highly functional but highly aesthetic showpiece.
Compatibility
Despite having the name of EK-FB MSI X299 GAMING PRO CARBON RGB monoblock, it is also compatible with other MSI X299 motherboards. Specifically the MSI X299 GAMING PRO CARBON AC and X299 GAMING M7 ACK as well.
