For those concerned about the Intel X299’s VRM heatsink cooling inadequacy, liquid cooling monoblocks from EKWB are a good solution. They released a monoblock for MSI X299 motherboards several weeks ago, but now it is ASUS’ turn. The EK-FB ASUS PRIME X299 RGB Monoblock is a full-coverage solution that is compatible with four of ASUS’ motherboard models:
* note that the monoblock is compatible with ASUS TUF X299 Mark 1 motherboard if the Thermal Armor is removed or modified.
According to EKWB, the VRM temperature drop can be as significant as 20% compared to the stock cooling solution. This is despite the fact that the monoblock shares the heat load from the CPU. The new monoblock also comes with a new cold plate design, ensuring better mechanical contact with the IHS. Just like the MSI X299 monoblock, the base is made of nickel-plated electrolytic copper while the top is made of quality acrylic glass material. The nickel plated brass screw-in standoffs are already in place, which allow for easy installation.
The EKWB ASUS Prime X299 monoblock has a 4-pin RGB LED strip that connects to the motherboard’s 4-pin LED header. Users can also opt to connect it to any 4-pin RGB LED controller. Users can also access the LED cover if they wish to modify or change its direction.
EKWB is currently accepting pre-orders via their EK Webshop for 119.95€ with VAT included. Those orders will be shipping on September 18, 2017.
