Elgato 4K60 Pro HDR PCIe Capture Card Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Elgato 4K60 PRO doesn’t come cheap, and well, that makes sense given it’s the flagship model. You can pick up an entry-level model for a little over a £100. However, if you’re wanting to stream 240Hz 1080p, 144Hz 1440p, or 60Hz 4K, and you also want to throw in HDR10, then you’re going to have to step up. It’ll set you back around £229.95 here in the UK, and around $249.99 in the US. Honestly, I think that’s pretty reasonable, given the overall features, software support, build quality, etc.

Overview

When Corsair bought out Elgato a while back, you knew that Elgato would be stepping up as a brand and getting more into the spotlight. That’s certainly happened over the last year. Established names like AVerMedia may have more experience, but Elgato has proven time and time again that they can compete with anything else on the market, and look good doing it. Elgato’s strength comes from the wider portfolio of their own software, lighting systems, macro panels and more; all of which appeal to the gamer/streaming market.

Features

It’s good to see that Elgato is giving us a more robust range of products. They’ve got the more affordable HD devices for those on a tighter budget or with lower requirements. However, their new flagship is quite the beast that should appeal to professional streamers, the eSports markets, and a wide range of digital content creators too. Being able to use OBS Studio, Streamlabs, XSplit, Twitch and anything else right out of the box is a huge boon too. It may be “pro” but it’s very beginner-friendly also.

Added Value

It’s a premium experience throughout, from the unboxing experience to the actual usage. The inclusion of a quality HDMI cable, the slim bracket, etc, are also very welcome. I appreciate the build quality too, with a clean metal housing design that’s just as much a compliment to your high-end PC build as any other component. There aren’t a huge number of HDR10 compatible options out there either, which certainly adds to the value of the new 4K60 Pro.

Stay tuned to our Twitch, where we’ll have the Elgato 4K60 Pro put to work very soon!
