Elgato Wave DX Review

How Much Does it Cost?
The Elgato Wave DX is available on Amazon for £109.99, and while that’s a lot of money, it’s actually pretty competitive and a fair price for such a nice quality microphone. The Low Profile arm is just £89.99 which is again in line with other premium boom arms. The Elgato Wave XLR is available for £144.99, which I think is a bargain given the overall features and design it offers. Overall, that comes to around £350, but buying the whole bundle directly from Elgato will get you the set for just £300. For an extra £10, you can get the XLR cable thrown into that bundle too.
Overview
I absolutely love this microphone, I just wish I had a personal need for it. I don’t typically chat while I’m gaming, and as you’re sat reading this, it’s no surprise to know that I do written content not video content. I lack the vocal talent for it for one, and no bugger can understand my accent anyway, doh! That being said, this is a stunning microphone for those who have need of it.
Alternatives
If screaming at your mates on Discord is what you want to do, then your headset’s microphone will likely suffice. If you want to step up to something better sounding, the the Elgato gaming microphones that stand on your desk are likely all you need too. They’re great for new content creators and podcasters too.
Next-Level
However, if you’re pushing into the big leagues, making professional content and hosting many live streams, investing in some premium equipment can be what gives your channel the edge and makes it more appealing to your listeners/viewers. That’s where all this lovely Elgato XLR stuff comes into play.
Great Value
Now, there are plenty of great microphones out there, and frankly, you can drop insane amounts of money on audio hardware. £300 may sound like a lot of money, but it’s still small fish in the audio market. However, the features, quality, design and practicality that you get from Elgato are exceptional and I think near impossible to beat.
Should I But One?
The added value for the Elgato ecosystem cannot be understated. Their software suites are superb, and with interaction for the Stream Deck peripherals, OBS support and more, it’s going to be a no-brainer for many streamers and content creators. Being able to get everything from the lighting and greenscreen to the microphone and mixing all from Elgato is very appealing. I think these microphones are going to sell very well indeed, I highly recommend them.
