Elon Musk has renamed Twitter to X in a sudden and odd move that is sure to further alienate the platform.
As if Twitter could get any worse the platform is no longer named Twitter in a sudden and bizarre move from Elon Musk and Linda Yaccarino. Currently, the Twitter logo has been replaced with the new X logo and both Musk and Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino have made posts regarding the change with the latter claiming big plans treating X as a second chance to make a big impression, by inserting itself into the corpse of an already awful website. The intentions with X are to unlimited interactivity which will involve audio, video, messaging, payments/banking creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services and opportunities.
Whilst the name change is a bit random, the reasoning for the name isn’t as X has some history with Musk. X.com was an online bank that Elon created before PayPal and a domain name that he still owns to this day. It’s likely that the plan is to distance Twitter from its poor reputation which rings similar to Hermes renaming to Evri to distance themselves from their poor reputation. Unfortunately, this did not work as name changes don’t mean a change in service. It does appear that this name change is to come with several large changes including something similar to Facebook Marketplace but with AI involved as well.
