I can honestly say that when it comes to Elon Musk, I don’t have any overly strong opinions about him one way or the other. Following his successful acquisition of social media platform Twitter earlier this month, however, I think it’s fair to say that a lot of people have (at least apparently) been losing their minds over the matter.
Does Elon care though? Well, following a new post apparently not as he’s saying that Twitter has never been more popular or widely used since he took charge!
Backing it up with the comment that ‘he hopes the servers don’t melt’, Elon Musk has taken to his platform to confirm that Twitter usage is currently at an all-time high clearly indicating that his ownership of it is already having a positive effect on the platform (in business terms at least).
Why are people so angry at his takeover though? Well, while some cite concerns that Twitter might start reinstating banned accounts (mostly left-wing celebrities on right-wing celebrities), a lot of it boils down to the fact that Elon Musk is going to start charging $8 a month for users to get the blue verification badge. – A factor which, in fairness, I don’t think is unreasonable. Why should you be allowed to monetise and promote yourself without the platform you do it on taking a very incidental and borderline token fee?
I mean, let’s be honest, for most celebrities, Twitter isn’t social media, it’s PR. Hell, a lot of celebrities don’t even use it themselves. They get their agents and representatives to do it for them!
Elon has heard the criticism, however, and has this to say in response.
I generally tend to find the vast majority of the criticism against Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover mostly ridiculous. – I mean, where’s the outrage over Twitch being owned by Amazon’s billionaire tyrant Jeff Bezos? Why is Mark Zuckerberg still in charge of Facebook following masses of huge scandals involving fake news and political corruption?
Compared to those people, Elon Musk hasn’t really done much to seemingly warrant this abuse. – The good news though is that he doesn’t apparently seem to care!
