When it comes to online multiplayer games, there are two days of untold sadness. The first day comes when the developers announce they will no longer be supporting the game, often after many years of enjoyment from the games fans. The second moment is as you approach the big shutdown, a moment which Planetside made more than a little memorable.
Planetside has entertained people for 13 years, offering gamers large-scale battles for thousands, if not millions of players. Steve Messner is one of the players who was online in the game’s final moments and didn’t just capture his squad final deployment.
In the final moments of the game, the developers decided to see the game off with a bang. Using an event rarely seen in the game, such as during the event The Bending when the entire planet exploded. As you can witness in the video below the event I speak of is a meteor shower that covers the entire landscape, killing players regardless of rank, location or playtime.
While witnessing not only their end but also the end of Planetside itself it’s hard to recall a time more moving than when you have to say goodbye to something that brought you untold happiness with so many friends (and enemies).
