Embr Wave is a Personal Thermostat on Your Wrist

An interesting Kickstarter project called Embr Wave has more than surpassed their $100,000 goal with 14-days to go. What exactly does it do? It is a device that goes on the wrist like a watch, but it claims that it is able to control the person’s immediate temperature. Feeling cold but you want to show off your arm tattoos? With this device you do not need to put on that jumper just to warm up. You can use it to cool down during a hot day as well. It sounds like magic but there is actually a lot of practical science in this approach.
How Does Embr Wave Work?
Well they will not divulge exactly how it works, or else somebody from China would have already started selling it before the campaign even ended. However, according to the Kickstarter page, it draws inspiration from the principle that cooling or heating one spot on the body can significantly increase a person’s comfort. That is without changing the core temperature. This is the same phenomenon that explains why wet socks makes people feel cold. Or why a hot cup of tea on a winter night can be very comforting even if you just hold the cup on your hands. The body has hardwiring that responds this way because thermal sensations trigger the regions of the brain that control pleasure and thermoregulation.
