The specifications on the Viro are decent, nothing too crazy, but with the bigger than average 53mm drivers and 24bit 48000Hz playback using the USB soundcard, they’re certainly good enough in terms of specifications for your typical PC gamer, movie and music enthusiast, or YouTube addict, which are all applied to myself, of course. Blasting through some songs, such as Elka Deep Phase by Matts and Morgan, the clarity is very bright, and while bass is detailed, it just lacks a little punch for my taste. Thankfully you can balance this to taste with the EQ and a touch more low end seems to balance things well for music.
The bass response is tight, having no trouble keeping up with the terrifying crunch of NILE – Enduring The Eternal Molestation Of Flame and even his vocals were pretty clear, if you have an ear for such music, at least. I always love the bass guitar from The Hatters – No Rules, and again, it rings clear, with the brass sections just ripping clean and clear, which is great, and some vocal heavy drum and bass antics from Bru-C Shapes – Let It Go sounded great, but again, with a little EQ on the bass or it was a bit to thin sounding.
The thin sound isn’t so bad though, it’s definitely tuned more towards games or your typically over saturated movie mixes (looking at you Michael Bay! Well, not really, your movies are largely garbage…) where bass is often very over done, so it makes games sound more open and natural, but again, you can EQ to your taste anyway. The surround sound processing is excellent too, and I tested it with both Dolby Headphone and DTS:Headphone X processing and they both worked really well too.
Overall, it’s a great sounding headset, and handles EQ profiles well, either through the Endorfy software, or just simply making some changes using the Windows Sound Manager. Of course, if you’re hooking it up to your console, mobile device or similar, you’ll have to use their EQ or surround features such as Dolby Headphones, but at least it’s versatile in terms of connectivity and gives you plenty of options.
