A Closer Look – Radiator Valves
The radiator valves are really cool bits of kit. They look fairly simple, and I guess they both are, and they aren’t at the same time. Instead of turning the tap on the side of the radiator yourself, these things contain a motor. You can push the grey button on the front, and it’ll turn them on or off. However, when paired up with your smart home, you can use things like Alexa or various custom configurations. In the app, I can make any radiator turn on or off when the room is at a certain temperature or time. For example, my bedroom radiator shuts down at 9pm and stays off until 10am so I’m not too hot at night. The living room one only turns on below 16c and turns off at 21c.
They’re fairly compact and should fit on virtually any standard radiator fitting. Of course, you replace your current fitting with these. You don’t need to be a plumber to do so either. It’s a case of pull off the old one, and clip the new one on in its place. The clips can be a bit of a fiddle, but again, you don’t need to be a genius to figure them out either.
The control button is there should you need it. There’s also a small LED indicator that shows battery life, or lights up when the motor is running.
