A Closer Look: EMK5102
The Enermax EMK5102 is basically just a mutated version of the EMK3101 that takes 3.5-inch drive instead of a 2.5-inch. It comes with the same accessory pack in form of a MOLEX to SATA power cable, metal clipped SATA data cable, screws to mount it and a key to lock the bay from sticky fingers and accidental ejection.
The front features the same ejection style as we saw on the EMK3101 with the lock built directly into it. Enermax did move the LED status light outside of the drive door in this model and increased the size. After all, there is more than enough room in this enclosure.
There is one change when comparing to the smaller model and that is the active cooling via a 40mm fan on the rear. It has default SATA power and data connectors as well as the additional LED connection.
The use of mechanical drives will require this active cooling in order to keep the drive within safe operating temperatures. It is a small and close space and a necessary ‘evil’.
Taking the whole thing apart, we see the simple interior. The outside box is a sturdy metal construction and the insides are just the same. The exterior keeps everything sturdy and stable, so Enermax could make the interior smaller and more lightweight.
Inserting the drive is just as simple, slide it in and close the door.
