Software Impressions

The downloadable JMicron HW RAID Manager for the MK3203 is a simple piece of software that does what it’s supposed to do. It isn’t cluttered with useless functions or information everywhere, but the design does take a little to get used to.

It is divided up into two categories for Basic and Advanced functions. The first page on the Basic Mode tab will show you basic information about the drives inserted as well as the controller itself.

One page two you’ll find an event log viewer with warning and information about your drives. I forced a couple events as seen below to show some of the possible messages.

The final Basic page contains a RAID configuration option allowing you to change the mode as well as set a password for it. A great little bonus.

Creating a new RAID setup just takes a couple of mouse clicks, it really couldn’t be any simpler.

The Advanced Mode isn’t as much a mode as rather more advanced functions. You can setup the RAID manager to automatic send you email warning and notification on critical events of your choice. Another great bonus.

The Advanced RAID configuration has the same features as the basic one, at least in this 2-bay version. We know that the internal chip supports up to 4 channels, which could be where this page comes into play for other enclosures.

The final page allows you to set a couple basic RAID settings such as Standby timer and rebuilt priority.
