Enermax Hoplite Mid-Tower Chassis Review

Final ThoughtsOverall, the Enermax Hoplite is an impressive case which incorporates a number of high-end features into a mid-range case. These include hot swap drive bays and extensive provision for cable management.

The one thing that really stands out about the Hoplite is the snazzy Vegas fan that is supplied in the front of the case. This really makes the case look special when it’s switched on although it is a little too bright, especially if you’re using the case in a dimly lit room. The fact that it is speed controllable and you can change the LED lighting effect adds to the appeal of this fan. The lights can also be turned off but we can’t see why you would want to!

The plastic and steel construction may not ooze quality like the top-notch aluminium cases we’ve seen from Lian Li but it is quite good for the price. It isn’t range topping, though, as it isn’t quite as good as the build quality of the best similarly priced cases like the Fractal Design Define XL.

In recent months we have seen a number of very impressive cases hit the market in the sub £100 category. At around £85, the Hoplite offers reasonable value for money, especially considering the awesome Vegas fan that is included. But there are numerous other impressive cases around the same price like the Define XL which all have their own positives and negatives. The Hoplite seems to be quite well-rounded in terms of its feature set, though, so is definitely a good option.

Pros:

  • Enermax Vegas Fan
  • Hot-Swap drive bays
  • Lots of fan mounting points
  • Reasonable build quality

Cons:

  • Would be much more attractive at £75
  • Non-replaceable PCI covers
