When I reviewed the original Ostrog I praised it for its overall design, for a budget friendly chassis it was and still is a great choice for anyone looking to build their own system, especially if they’re on a tighter budget. Yet not all of us have the concern of a tight budget and our system need that extra room to grow, be that multiple graphics cards, large CPU cooling solutions, or even just a massive array of hard drives and that’s exactly where the Ostrog Giant comes into play, by offering you the space you need to fit some of today’s more demanding components.
With room for 10 hard drives there is no doubt that the Ostrog GT can keep up with your storage requirements, quite frankly if you need more than eight 3.5″ and two 2.5″ hard drives in your system your likely looking at a super tower size solution, or building a something completely crazy. Even with the middle hard drive bay removed I can still install 6 drives in this chassis but also reap the benefits of improved airflow and the extra room for long graphics cards, although there are very few cards on the market that wouldn’t fit in this chassis with both hard drive bays in place, so no concerns for compatibility here.
The Bulky styling of the chassis might not be to everyone’s taste, but I personally think it looks great, and I really like the raised side panel window as it gives a great view of the chassis interior, combine that with the extra space within the chassis, good cable management and interior paint job you can easy create a system that is worth showing off here.
However, the best part of this chassis is the price and at around £70 its certainly competitive with other solutions on the market. There are plenty of great options on the market within this price range, but the fact that this chassis has 8 PCI slots that would allow for a quad GPU setup, good quality pre-installed cooling fans, support for large top mounted fans or radiators, 10 HDD bays, cable management and rock solid build quality, there is little else you could ask for in this price range. It’s because of this that I’m happy to award the Ostrog GT with out eTeknix Bang for Buck award.
