Price
This is one of the most unique and feature packed mice on the market today, so it comes with a price tag to match its flagship status. The EpicGear Morpha X will set you back around $129.99 from Amazon US. It’s not currently in the UK market but check with your favourite retailers for stock anyway, as you might get lucky. I would expect EU/UK prices to be North of £100, similar to the USD price.
Overview
I absolutely love this mouse, it’s seriously cool to use and the modular features are something we don’t see that often. This isn’t the first mouse with a swappable sensor we’ve seen, as you can get them from SteelSeries, although they sell their extra sensor as an optional add-on, not as something included in the box. We’ve seen modular switches before too, but that doesn’t make the Morpha X any less cool.
In terms of build quality, the Morpha X is up there with the best. The design has clearly been well thought out, from the modular top panels, to the cartridge loading system for the sensors, it all feels robust and locks into place with ease. The build quality shows in the design too, it’s a quality looking and feeling product, with a nice weight to it, durable materials, and nicely finished surfaces. Of course, should a switch fail, you could easily buy a new one, clip it in, and you’re good to go.
Both of the sensors worked really well, and it’s certainly subjective which is better as everyone has their own preference, their own play style, their own usage scenarios. The fact I can literally pull out one and slot in the other mid-game is fun, although I severely doubt anyone would. What I expect will happen is you’ll find the sensor that works best within a couple of days usage. You’ll find the switches you like on day one, the top panels you like on day one, and the weights too. You’ll set it up and likely leave it that way for a very long time. However, it’s still nice to have the option to swap components out should you feel the need.
As with all EpicGear peripherals, I do feel their software is a little too “gamer” with garish graphics, and it looks a little dated. That being said, it works just fine, but I’d love to see it looking a little sleeker and modern to suit the premium aesthetic of the Morpha X.
Pros
Cons
If you like to play lots of games and even mix up your play styles from time to time, the Morpha X is an appealing product. The mouse you buy doesn’t have to be the mouse you use, and you can tweak a lot of features to really make this mouse feel like your own!”
