First up, are the First Person Shooters, to no surprise.
This year was a big year for the FPS Genre with the big titans Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 battling it out to be the best FPS of 2011. But let’s not forget the smaller games, which although may have gone unnoticed, are equally as good and worth the money. Games such as Rage, or Red Orchestra 2 might not be the first thing you think of when you think FPS, but they are solid games that deserve their place in the genre.
The selected games for this years Christmas Game Buying Guide are:
Battlefield 3
The highly anticipated Battlefield 3 was released in October 28th 2011. It may have had a few teething issues as it started off, with Origin and Battlelog, but with those now fixed, it is definitely shaping up to be one of the best shooters we’ve seen in a long time.
Featuring massive 64 player battles on the PC, with air, land, and infantry combat. If you’re into shooting things, with guns, tanks, helicopters and jets, then Battlefield 3 is definitely for you. The gameplay is squad based, with a squad being formed of 4 players, who can spawn on each other when they die. It can easily be played as a casual shooter, or a serious tactical excursion into the fighting world. You can pick this game up for about £30 at any good retailer.
Modern Warfare 3
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, like Battlefield 3 is also highly hyped and anticipated. Released on the 8th of November 2011, it is the sequel in the extensive Call of Duty franchise.
Available on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, its a all rounder of a game, something that’s fun and everyone can enjoy. You can pick up and play, you don’t need to sit down for hours and plan your day around the game. While the competition between Battlefield and Modern Warfare is high, needlessly to say, they are both great games, with different play styles.
Modern Warfare is suited for those that like to run and gun, getting lots of kills and feeling like a human terminator. You should be able to find MW3 for around £40 at any good retailer.
