We’ve now reach the land of the MMORPG’s – Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games.
These are the online games where you play with thousands if not millions of other people around the world, working together to help each other achieve their goals. This year has seen only a few games released this year in the MMO genre, namely Warhammer Online and DC: Universe. However, released on Tuesday, is the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Old Republic. Lets take a look at what we’d recommend as a great Christmas MMO gift.
The selected games for this years Christmas Game Buying Guide are:
DC: Universe Online
Early this this year in January, DC Universe Online was released. Promising a great set of voice actors, fully licensed characters and costumes, fast paced action and great sets. In a first for a MMO, its also available on the PS3, not just the PC which is usually exclusive to the MMO genre.
Fairly well reviewed, it may not be a gamechanger in the world of MMOs, but it certainly isn’t bad at all. If you want to get into the MMO scene, but aren’t looking for a completely serious hotkey spamming experience, then this is for you. DC Universe can be bought for around £25-30 depending on platform and retailer.
Star Wars: The Old Republic
As the most anticipated MMO among Star Wars and MMO fans alike for 2011, Star Wars: The Old Republic, which is released on Tuesday the 20th of December will surely be a very big game. For anyone who loves Star Wars, anything Sci-Fi, MMO’s, and those who can put the time and effort into a game.
Being a MMO, it’s not something you can pick up and play. You need to dedicated hours to playing, leveling and progressing. The game has a very detailed, intricate and involving storyline, much more than any MMO before. The combat has been likened to that of WoW, but improved in areas. You can get The Old Republic for around £35-40 at any good retailer.
