eTeknix visit Showstoppers at CES 2013

CES is a massive show with many different sections and displays for the various press to visit, but while the show its self is massive it also plays host to many side shows, Show Stoppers is one of those events. This was a great place for many companies to wine and dine the press and show off a few of their select innovations, with everything from glasses free 3DTV to Apple product cases, it really was a mixed event, for better and for worse there was plenty to see.

While the motto “save the best till last” can be true, we can’t help but dive straight into this one, a stunning laptop with SLI capabilities. The device you see below is a GTX 650 which can be inserted into the optical drive slot, giving you double the GPU power from an already incredible performance system.

The SLI laptop in question is from Lenovo and since it’s fitted with an i7 CPU, with a twin GTX 560 SLI setup this is a stunning desktop replacement and should prove popular with those that need to do heavy duty video editing and intense computing while on the move. Easily one of our top picks from the whole show, which is saying something.

Lenovo weren’t showing just one device of course, they had on offer a stunning range of touch screen untrabooks, tablets and tranformer tablets that we think will set them up for a great year throughout 2013, well worth keeping an eye on their range.

EnGenious bring to the scene these cloud manageable wireless routers, nothing ground breaking but the design is a little different from most on the market.

For those just wanting a solid home network for a few computers, with less of a focus on home entertainment then these with N300/600/900 routers will offer a more budget friendly solution, both devices should be hitting retail markets soon.

HP had a strong presence at Show Stopper and had a choice selection of Windows 8 powered devices such as tablets and notebooks, nothing that we haven’t seen elsewhere at the show, but the one thing that stood out was this interactive and “huge” laptop, it definitely stands out in a crowd, no hope of getting this into your local Starbucks of course.

CES 2013 had enough Apps and iThings to make your head spin, so much so that I’m now bored to tears with anything to do with mobile… at least until we stumbled across this little number from Nero. NeroKwik is a free app and service that allows to you sync your devices images. Take a photo on your iPhone and it appears on your Android tablet, home PC, or you can share the link via web, this is incredibly handy for people like us who take multiple photos in multiple places, but need to share our progress.

It’s free to try and well worth a nosy over at www.nerokwik.com.

Now this is what you call a show stopper! that’s not a typo either and this is one of the most talked about products of the entire show, a 1TB USB drive, incredible amount of pocket storage, there will be plenty of room for it in your pocket too though as your wallet will be empty, expect to pay a couple of thousand pounds for this little number. Expensive or not though, it’s simply incredible and it just goes to show that Kingston are top of their game.

For those that can’t afford the awesome 1TB drive (which is a lot of people), there is the more wallet friendly Wi-Drive+, hook up your flash drives and memory cards and they can be instantly shared over Wi-Fi from this rechargeable device. Or you could combine the two and really show off to your friends.

Also on display from Kingston were their common favourites, the Xpredator and Beast ram kits, both of which are held in high regard here at eTeknix.

For those of you who love a good peripheral, Mionix were on offer to fulfil your desires with their new keyboard, I was silly enough not to take down more details of this one but it was a joy to use and we hope to have this in for review in the coming months, so stay tuned for a full breakdown of this one.

There was a lot more on offer at Show Stoppers, but as I said before some of it was better than the rest, I feel sorry to say some of the goods and stands were quite poor and not worth mentioning, or at least were displaying products that in no way relate to our interests. CES is a huge show though and when I say we have a LOT more epic content coming your way, I mean it. Stay tuned throughout the week as we bring you in depth coverage of some of the top manufacturers at the show.
