ETS 2 1.48.5 Introduces Some Map Additions And Finally an FPS Limiter

The SCS Software team has today released Update 1.48.5 for Euro Truck Simulator 2 which has introduced some new map content in preparation for the upcoming West Balkans DLC, as well as a very important fix relating to frame rate caps.
New Map Content
In preparation for the West Balkans DLC, SCS has taken the time to improve the cities of Ancona and Bari with the inclusion of new ports for the ferries to the West Balkans as well as some general improvements of the cities with some new landmarks. The city of Trieste has also been added to the game on the order of Slovenia and Italy. Trieste will come as an update to the base game rather than an update for just Italia DLC owners which is good for those who haven’t gotten access to the DLCs.
FPS Limiter
The introduction of a Frame Rate limiter is what has caught my eye on this update as this has been a pretty big problem for me. I own an RTX 3090 Ti EVGA FTW 3 Ultra which under most circumstances will barely go over 60C even at max settings Cyberpunk with Path Tracing. Euro Truck Simulator however will ramp that temperature all the way up to the mid-70s every time I would Alt-Tab. This was because the game would run at 100% and try to render the maximum frames possible which isn’t ideal when alt-tabbed. To fix this SCS has introduced a 300 FPS cap to the game which won’t limit most monitors and will keep the game from ramping up higher.
Improved Loading Times
Additionally, some improvements to the load times have been introduced with claims of up to 6 times faster load times. Previous updates have notoriously taken a while to re-cache and update nav data which won’t be a problem now as this process has been optimised and sped up. The load times for the company directory have also been decreased by 23 times compared to previous updates.
Future Switzerland Rework Mont Blanc
Not a part of this update, but recently SCS shared some photos of their Switzerland Rework as a part of the project to bring the lower quality areas of the 2012 game map up to scratch with the more modern DLCs. Currently, the team has reworked parts of Germany, Austria and some parts of Switzerland which today now includes the Mont Blanc area. The scenery in ETS 2 is often the best part of the game, especially with the more recently updated areas and DLC as well as some modded maps and I can’t wait to drive through the reworked Switzerland.
