Evercool Silent Shark (HPO 12025) CPU Cooler Review

The provided mounting kit is excellent. It very much reminds me of the kits that SilverStone, NZXT and Cooler Master use. I cannot fault it at all as it does a solid job. The process of installation is very easy and you cannot go wrong. Simply install the backplate, secure it with the provided screws and locking nuts. Then attach the correct mounting brackets for you socket – once every is secure mount the heatsink and tighten the pre-fitted screws at the base (you must remove the plastic casing to access these pre-fitted screws). Evercool also provide thermal paste and two low noise adapters for both of the fans. I believe Evercool should have provided a tool-less installation mechanism for the plastic shielding on the CPU cooler, although since you only need to install this once it is no big deal.
The Silent Shark CPU cooler is an absolute mammoth. As you can see it isn’t far off being as wide as my ATX motherboard.
The Silent Shark is raised up quite a bit so shouldn’t interfere with any motherboard components. The mounting kit stays well within Intel socket specifications.
The Silent Shark covers all four RAM slots so you can only use normal height RAM or low profile RAM. We used Kingston HyperX Blu and as you can see it is a snug fit. In my opinion a CPU cooler that covers two RAM slots is in the same boat as one that covers four – since you need to populate alternate RAM slots on most systems these days. So the Silent Shark doesn’t incur any additional “penalties” in this review compared to other CPU coolers that only blocked two RAM slots.
