Evercool Silent Shark (HPO 12025) CPU Cooler Review

Stock temperatures were good for the price point, but for a dual fan cooler the Silent Shark is a fair bit behind where we would expect it to be.  The Silent Shark CPU cooler I would most closely resembles the Dark Rock Pro 2 in terms of its features and size, yet we can see it is about 2 degrees behind the Dark Rock Pro 2 which is quite disappointing for stock speeds but lets see if anything changes when we throw some overclocking into the mix.

With overclocking we can see the Evercool Silent Shark does quite well and is closer to the top than at stock speeds. Its performance is better than the dual fan Spire TME III and TPC 800 but it is beaten by the similarly designed Dark Rock Pro 2. The Scythe Mugen 3 and Thermalright Macho are both single fan coolers that managed to out-do the Silent Shark which is surprising to see. For such a large CPU cooler the performance numbers are a tad disappointing and I was expecting a lot better although considering the price point these are actually pretty good results.

I know from my personal experiences playing around with fan speeds using ASUS Fan Xpert that one of the reasons the performance is lower than expected is because this is a CPU cooler design that requires a lot of airflow. I was able to shave off as much as 3-5 degrees when increasing fan speeds but this did add quite a lot to the acoustic results so I still do not believe these results warrant inclusion. I mention this because you could get better performance by having higher performance fans or by adding a third fan at the end of the cooler (although no third fan mount is provided which in my opinion is a slight disappointment). Again something to consider, but not something we will use to make our judgement at the end.
