EVGA Criticises Competitors After Recent OC Mode Fiasco

Recent revelations regarding the use of overclocked profiles on graphics card review samples have caused a great deal of anger and accusations about MSI and ASUS acting in an unfair manner. To be perfectly clear, these companies are sending out samples to reviewers and automatically setting the BIOS to the fastest option. Consumers can access the higher clocks through software applications. On the one side, you could argue this saves reviewers time and they’re bound to use the fastest setting even if it impacts on the noise output. However, many consumers dislike installing vendor software and want the fastest clocks without installing any programs. While ASUS has released an official statement on the matter, I’ve not received word from MSI.

Another major name in the graphics card market is EVGA and they’ve unleashed a major attack on the actions of their competitors. Their new slogan, “what you see is what you get” informs users that they never engage in such activities.

The company’s webpage reads:

“EVGA was one of the first graphics card companies to offer overclocked graphics cards, and since day one EVGA always delivered the exact same products to reviewers as well as customers. EVGA does not “fake” reviews or send out products with “tweaked” clockspeeds to reviewers. With EVGA Superclocked, FTW and Classified graphics cards, what you see is what you get.”

As you can see, the wording here is rather strong and EVGA isn’t happy with the competition using overclocked modes by default to reviewers. Of course, this is a marketing dream for the company and they’re using it to help promote their brand. Whether or not, ASUS and MSI have misled the public and reviewers remains to be seen but I doubt this issue will be forgotten so easily.

Do you think ASUS and MSI have breached consumer trust or is this being overblown?
