EVGA X79 FTW X79 Motherboard Review

EVGA are a brand that we don’t hear from much in the UK, but you can be rest assured that they are very popular in the GPU world. They do also cater for other types of products, with a big focus on motherboards at the moment and mainly the recent and very popular X79 based socket.
With the launch of Socket 2011 and the Intel X79 chipset, EVGA have jumped in to offer some boards to cater for the high-end market, offering feature-rich boards with the very best build quality and the personal EVGA touch that they’re famous for. The x79 lineup sees EVGA releasing three boards, with the X79 SLI, the X79 FTW that we’re looking at today, and the X79 Classified. Main differences between the boards come down to the expansion slots and the ability for tri-SLI with the X79 FTW board but not stopping at that, we also find triple BIOS support, a 12+2 phase PWM power delivery to the CPU and some little added extras including switches to enable various DIMM or PCIe slots.
From the offset, the overall package looks as if it could take down the competition with one punch, but without getting it onto our test bench and seeing for ourselves, it could have a big fight on its hands compared to offerings from Asus and ASRock with their high-end based X79 boards.
There is one thing that we are sure of, and that’s the quality of this board, and that’s without even unboxing it yet, as we know that is what EVGA stand for, and the X79 FTW will follow suit, so let’s get unboxing and take a look at what’s on offer from this board.
