The Evil Within represents a modern take on survival horror and is largely quite excellent. When the second game released last year, largely everyone thought it was a great sequel improving on the original in many ways. In an against the norm situation, the PC version was arguably the best.
In a new update, however, both PC and console gamers are now able to play the Evil Within 2, from start to finish, in a first-person mode.
For those unfamiliar with the game series, if you are a fan of horror, you have missed out on something special here. Combining survival horror with shooting, think of it as Resident Evil with a slice of Silent Hill and Alone in the Dark thrown in for good measure.
The original was good, but the sequel was great. The first person mode, however, might require players to ensure they have fresh trousers before playing.
As can be seen in the update trailer below, in first person, the game looks very different indeed. The game’s developer, Shinsaku Ohara from Bethesda, has said: “A lot of players like playing horror games in first-person, so for those who want to see some of the game’s situations through Sebastian’s eyes, it’s a really neat experience. I think exploring Union in first-person makes the scale feel even bigger than it does when you’re in third-person. Also, being able to see our environments and enemies up close allows players to get an even better look at how much effort went into their designs.”
Having given it a quick go myself, most definitely. I had long finished with the Evil Within 2, but this gave me an excuse to re-install and try it all over again. While you might know whats coming in the plot, the change of perspective gives this game a fresh new twist which is well worth experiencing.
The patch has been released and is available for update now.
