Marvel VS Capcom Excluded From EVO 2018 Roster

Marvel VS Capcom Infinite

It’s been a pretty rotten few weeks for Marvel VS Capcom and Capcom in general and things are not looking any rosier. Despite it being in the past a very popular game in tournaments past, Marvel VS Capcom Infinite has just been given a major snub.

EVO 2018, one of the years biggest fighting game tournaments have excluded MVC from its gaming roster.

A major snub at EVO 2018

Each year, for fans of fighting games, EVO represents the Holy Grail of gaming tournaments. Featuring some of the best players in the world pulling off some of the most insane combo’s, it’s the go-to event for beat-em-ups.

In a report via PCGamesN, however, while EVO has released the gaming roster for their 2018 event, Marvel VS Capcom Infinite is a big name exclusion. It will also represent the first time a Marvel fighting game has not appeared. This game particular, however, is in itself is even more surprising given that the game isn’t even 6 months old. Since it’s release, however, it has gone down as one of the least popular in the series for some time.

More bad news for Capcom

This spells a further bad news story for Capcom. In direct relation to the game, MVC Infinite is now officially a flop. Despite it being a majorly popular franchise it has currently sold only half the anticipated units.

In addition to this, Capcom also recently announced redundancies at one of their game development offices. It even led me to speculate that Capcom might be in some significant financial trouble. One which could even spell the end of the studio. Yes, a dramatic statement I know, but I honestly do not say it just to garner a response. I am genuinely concerned about their future.

A slim hope it will be included

There is a slim possibility that MVC Infinite will be included at EVO 2018, but only if the fans really rally for it. Given how poorly it has sold, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

In fairness, it isn’t a particularly good game and as such, I can understand why it didn’t sell well and why it will not be appearing. That being said, it’s another minor disaster that Capcom didn’t need.

What do you think? Surprised it wasn’t included? Worried about Capcom? – Let us know in the comments!
