Exploding iPhone 7 Torches Car

Anything Samsung can do, Apple can do better; following on from multiple reports of exploding Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones – incidents which caused the Korean tech giant to recall the handset and cease production – an Australian surfer claims that his iPhone 7 burst into flames and destroyed his car.
“Mat Jones says he had left the phone under clothes in his car while taking a surf lesson,” reports Australia’s 7 News. “When he returned, he was shocked to discover the vehicle filled with smoke.”
“Mr Jones recorded the molten remains of his iPhone 7 and the flaming pants it was wrapped in. He has no doubt it was the source of the fire,” the report adds. “The surf instructor bought the phone just one week ago and says he hasn’t dropped it or used a foreign charger.”
“Ash was just coming from inside the pants, which then once you wrapped open the pants, the phone was just melting inside of it,” Jones told 7 News.
The iPhone 7 hasn’t yet been proven to have caused the fire, with only Jones’ testimony to go on. Jones assured 7 News that the handset was only a week old and had only been charged using the proprietary charger. Apple has said that it is investigating the incident.
