Explore Planets and Kill Creatures in No Man’s Sky Inspired Doom Mod

What sounds better than No Man’s Sky? A lot of things, ok not the best way to introduce this. How about the sound of the original Doom game with interplanetary exploration, open world areas and a heap of guns? That’s what Modder Robert Prest envisioned and that’s exactly what he has delivered.
“This is the most recent project that I have been working on, and has taken around 3 weeks. This was just by myself this time, but I used plenty of code from DoomZ for it, which cut down time a lot.”
The game still uses a procedurally generated system, and while it does draw inspiration from No Man’s Sky, it’s still very much a Doom mod, with the old-school graphics and everything still in place. What’s even more amusing is that the modder hasn’t played No Man’s Sky, and based this mod around the trailer for the game. He basically built the mod around the version of the game No Man’s Sky should have been, not the one that was released.
“Everything is randomly generated from an array, including the scenery, sky, floor, plans and aliens etc. There is plenty more that can be added relatively simply, and due to the flipbook style randomisation on the creatures, each addition makes exponentially more creatures and possible planets, but I didn’t want to spend too long on this before releasing. You can mod it to put in your own faces etc if anyone wants to do that. There is probably lots that doesn’t match up to the game, but I’ve yet to get round to playing it, so just went with what I saw in the trailer.”
If you want to travel to the center of the galaxy killing procedurally generated creatures along the way, and I’m sure you do, check out the official mod page here.
