Ever thought that your external SSD enclosure was a bit boring just sitting around on your desk? Well China, as always, has an answer to this very problem that very few people have in the form of a rather unique M.2 enclosure.
An SSD enclosure from Chinese Manufacturer Jeyi was spotted by FanlessTech on Twitter (Via TomsHardware which transforms your SSD into a Formula 1 car complete with four moving wheels. It is named the Jeyi ThundeRate and is constructed entirely out of aluminium alloy which is painted red because red, as we all know, means speed. The M.2 itself is housed underneath with a removable backplate that offers cooling on both sides of the SSD. If you’re getting bored waiting for some files to transfer, drive the enclosure around on your desk making vroom vroom noises and the transfer will be done in no time.
The enclosure itself uses an RTL9210B-CG Realtek controller that supports both NVMe and SATA protocols and is a USB 3.1 Gen 2 to PCIe 3.0 x 2 Bridge so it is unable to utilise the speeds of Gen 4 or Gen 5 SSDs, which is a bit unfortunate for its design.
Currently, this drive is said to be listed for around $55 at Chinese e-commerce sites JD.com and Tmall making it quite an expensive Hot Wheels car, the only thing that would make it better is if the transparent wheels had RGB lighting.
