F1 2012 PC Review

Gameplay is self explanitory when it comes to the basics, its a pedal to the metal F1 racing game, that much is obvious, but its little features like the Academy that stood out for me. Being quite inexperienced at the whole F1 thing, it offered me a way to quite litterally get up to speed with how the cars work. With simple acceleration and braking trials, a few lessons on grip, cornering, driving in the wet and how to over take before you can enter the championship. It’s nothing on par with the Gran Turismo licence lessons, but its more than enough to get you started and keep you on the track.

The controls were really responsive too, for the review I used a standard Xbox 360 controller plugged into the PC, the interface supports display of the relavant Xbox controller buttons too, which really helped with navigation. But the overall driving experience and controls are fantastic and won’t disapoint racing fans.

Between races you get to pick your race rival, I chose Lewis Hamilton which wasn’t working out too well for me until he had the misfortune of a minor crash, leaving me to take first place. While I didn’t much care about the actual season side of things, the extra kick of trying to beat my rival was a lot of fun.

The game also offers you a great series of challanges that you can take part in, giving you what are essentially the highlights of the season to complete. With things like the race starting on lap 15, you have 5 laps remaining to overtake Button and your 8 places behind him, over take him before the end of the race and you complete the challange. May sound a little silly not doing the full race, but for people who want a more pick up and play arcade challange it’s perfect, especially if you don’t have time to dedicate hour after hour to the full championship.
