F1 Race Stars is fitted out with the usual fair in terms of racing options. These include single player quick play, career and online multiplayer, which is about all you need really when it comes to a racing game so no issues there.
The menus and interface are well laid out and it doesn’t take long to get your self setup, pick a kart that is to your liking, pick your favourite race star and get going.
While the single race option is great for when you want to have a quick blast, the career mode is where the bulk of content is with multiple races over loads of tracks and a fair size track progression to work your way through in this fantasy season.
Controls are super simple here, not unlike that of any other arcade style racer you will find your self rarely letting go of the accelerator and only need the occasional tap of the breaks when you move up from 1000cc karts to the 2000 or 3000 class.
There are many little features that I do like though, such as drafting to allow you a speed boost and even ARS makes an appearance, both allowing you to give your car that extra boost to overtake your opponents.
There are also a decent selection of bonus items on the track, these range from bubble traps, projectile weapons, speed boosts and even metal wheels to keep your car safe.
Should you suffer a few too many hits there are multiple pit lanes you can pull into, while you don’t actually stop your car you will slow down for a short while so best to use them sparingly or you may find your self dropping behind the pack.
The next thing I noticed is that while this game is easy to play, controls are simple and weapons are fun, it is not that easy to win a race and the opponents do put a fair fight (most of the time) and I often found my self landing no higher than 2nd or 3rd in races, so there is some challenge there for those than want it.
Most importantly though are the tracks, which have been inspired by real world locations but in all honestly have little to do with real life. Water slide sections, loop the loops, corkscrews and sideways sections of track and freak weather conditions keep the dizziness set to maximum throughout.
