The Facebook phone has been a rumour that’s be rampant on the internet for awhile now, but it seems that maybe they are ready to unveil it. Facebook has sent out invitations to an Android event scheduled to take place April 4th at 10 a.m. PDT. Now that’s not a lot of info to go on, however the invite does read “Come See Our New Home On Android.” Current suspicions are the event will feature a heavily modified version of Google’s mobile OS, to be Facebook centric. Some speculation goes on to mention that it could be an HTC device, but right now we don’t know for sure.
The above photo is reportedly a HTC-built “Myst” device, a 4.3″ smartphone roughly the same size as the iPhone 5. The phone will include a new version of the official Facebook app, as well as custom Messenger and Contacts apps specially designed to integrate with Android. People are suspecting that the device will be contain the full suite of Facebook features. That is to say the Messenger app will allow SMS texting & allow the Facebook VoIP calling service on it as well. It’s currently available on the iPhone for USA, Canada and U.K. residence, so it’d make sense to have it’s inclusion, therefore allowing users to make calls while circumventing service providers.
All this stuff makes sense, and it’s plausible, the only question left is why? We’ll all just have to wait until next Thursday, keep your eye on the site for updates as they happen.
